Upward COVID Modifications

The list of modifications here is not all-inclusive. In so much as the COVID pandemic is fluid, our plans to facilitate a safe and fun youth sports ministry will flex and change as needed. Our mission remains unchanged…to Promote the Discovery of Jesus Through Sports.

REGISTRATION

  • Registration will be limited to Kindergarten through 4th grade only.
  • Registration will be limited to 192 basketball players and 36 cheerleaders (8-9 per team)
  • Online registration only…no paper forms will be accepted.
  • Online payment accepted at the time of registration only…no cash/check payments accepted.
  • Parents will select uniform size at the time of registration, no uniform sizing at evaluations.
  • The uniform exchange fee will be waived.
  • Two-step registration process o REGISTER ONLINE HERE o SIGN UP FOR AN EVALUATION SPOT HERE (basketball only).

EVALUATIONS

  • Cheerleaders do not need to attend since sizing provided online.
  • Players and parents will wait in vehicles until waived in by a volunteer.
  • All informational handouts will be emailed after evaluations.
  • One designated entrance and a separate exit.
  • All persons entering the building will have temperature checked at the door
  • A hand sanitizing station will be available at the entrance.
  • Masks required for all adults (parents and volunteers).
  • Only one parent per household allowed in the building (even with multiple players).
  • A maximum of 10 participants scheduled in 15-minute blocks.
  • 6’ social distancing markers will be placed on floors in areas where lines could form.
  • Backup and overflow areas will be available for overflow.
  • No sizing of uniforms or picture stations. Sizing jerseys available to see (no touching).
  • The same ball will be used per child for all six evaluation stations.
  • Children may bring their own ball if they wish (K-2nd = 25.5” and 3rd/4th = 28.5”).
  • Balls will be wiped down after every child.
  • A designated cleaning crew will be sanitizing high-frequency touch areas regularly.

PRACTICES

  • One designated entrance and a separate exit.
  • All persons entering the building will have temperature checked at the door
  • A hand sanitizing station will be available at the entrance.
  • Masks required for all adults (parents and volunteers).
  • Only one parent per household allowed in the building (even with multiple players).
  • No parents in the gym due to social distancing requirements (wait in the dining area or vehicles).
  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for all teams.
  • Teams will practice social distancing in the mid-practice huddle.
  • No team snacks allowed (no food allowed in the building).
  • No shared water bottles (names MUST be on the bottle).
  • The water fountain in the building is shut off, so children need to bring their own bottle.
  • A designated cleaning crew will be sanitizing high-frequency touch areas regularly.

GAMES

  • One designated entrance and separate exit.
  • Every person entering must complete the All American Athlete pre-screening questions/form.
  • All persons entering the building will have temperature checked at the door.
  • A hand sanitizing station will be available at the entrance.
  • All persons required to pass through a shoe cleaning area before entering the gym.
  • Masks required for all adults (parents and volunteers).
  • Only one parent will be allowed into the gym during games. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made for siblings of the child playing. One adult only per child.
  • We are finalizing plans for live streaming games for other family members to watch from home.
  • Pre-game player introductions will be done with teams at their team bench.
  • Team benches socially distanced.
  • Team benches sanitized between games.
  • Spectator seating will be socially distanced at 6’ recommended guidelines.
  • Referees will wear gloves during the game and change gloves at halftime (not required to wear masks due to physical exertion – optional).
  • Only electronic whistles will be allowed (no traditional mouth-blown whistles).
  • Balls will be wiped down between every period/quarter.
  • Balls will be used for one game then placed out of service for the remainder of the day.
  • Balls will be thoroughly sanitized weekly.
  • Post-game huddles will be socially distanced.
  • No team snacks allowed (no food allowed in the building).
  • No shared water bottles (names MUST be on the bottle).
  • The water fountain in the building is shut off, so children need to bring their own bottle.
  • No hanging around after the game, the building needs to be cleared for cleaning between games.

AWARD CELEBRATION

  • All persons entering the building will have temperature checked at the door.
  • Masks required for everyone over the recommended age of 9.
  • A hand sanitizing station will be available at the entrance.
  • Only two parents per household allowed in the building (even with multiple players).
  • Seats designated at 6’ social distancing guidelines.

Please remember these are plans. IF 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to be flexible and roll with the punches. As the wind blows, we will adjust the sails as needed and do all we can to keep moving forward. Everything on this list is subject to change at any moment with or without notice.
