MISSION STATEMENT: To introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports.

Upward Sports is an evangelistic sports ministry specifically designed for K-5 through 6th grade boys & girls that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. Upward Sports provides opportunities for all believers, no matter what denomination, to become meaningfully involved in the ministries of the church.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to pray for the needs of the program, coach a team or squad, referee a game, share a devotion, assist with transportation or concessions needs, and develop relationships in order to open avenues of ministry to the people of our community who will participate in the program.

The following is a brief glimpse at the various needs of the ministry:

Coaches - Coaches are needed for both the Basketball and the Cheerleading programs. Upward Sports understands that for most participants and their families, the difference between a good and bad sports league experience is the coach. The role of the coach is to uphold the Values of Upward Sports. In Upward Sports, a coach's success is not determined by wins and losses, but how they convey the love of Christ to each participant. In addition to following the guidelines unique to Upward Sports, coaches are responsible for leading their respective team through a brief devotion at each practice. Practices are limited to one hour a week, with a one-hour game on Saturdays. Practice schedules are determined by each individual coach and available gym space/time. Coaches are responsible for recruiting their Assistant Coaches. While it is not necessary for each coach to have a personal relationship with Christ, at least one adult who does should be present at each practice to ensure weekly devotions take place.

Referees - Refereeing is a ministry position. A referee represents the highest level of authority on the court. Referees are responsible for knowing the rules that are unique to Upward and are charged with being a teacher and a coach to help players better learn the game as it is played.

Prayer Partners - Prayer is the backbone of any successful ministry, and our prayer ministry focuses on the needs of our program throughout the season. Prayer partners are given a list of specific needs in which to pray for daily throughout the season

Devotions - Individuals are needed to lead spectators in a 3-5 minute devotion during the half-time of each game on Saturdays in January and February. Devotion topics can be provided by request, or you may choose to share your personal testimony and how Christ has worked in your life.

Scorekeepers - Volunteers are needed to sit at the scoring table and keep score and run the time clock during games.

Concessions - In an effort to provide a first-class sporting experience (and help offset the costs of the league), we'll be offering concessions during each game. Volunteers are needed to staff the concessions stand(s).

1. If you want to be a coach or referee, please plan on attending our Training Seminar on the morning of December 17th. Breakfast will be provided. Training is mandatory for coaches and referees.

2. ALL VOLUNTEERS must complete and submit a Criminal Background Check Please note that although the Background Check form indicates there is a fee, THE CHURCH WILL PAY THIS FEE.

3. All Basketball Coaches and Referees must complete and submit a Basketball Coach and Referee Application

4. All Cheerleading Coaches must complete and submit a Cheerleading Coach Application
